LED Light Painting
A few years back I wanted to make a LED Light Painting kit. I came up with two 6 volt batteries and a string of LED Lights. I asked the local LED store to help me with this crazy project. We came up with this crazy setup. Two 6 volt batteries costing $12 each. $24 and a string of light I over paid for at $20 from the guys that helped me put it together. My first attempts I put the lights on a child’s shield. I found this worked but it was far from the best way to do it. I found the movement of me moving about taking the picture waving it around was breaking the connection of the lights. My second attempt that works best is to lay the lights in a circle on the ground and move the camera about.
Painting light with LED is best when you put the lights on the ground on a black background. This way you can move the camera on the slow shutter to get the look you really want. I was shooting in my living room at dusk so the room was quite light. Below are the max setting of f22 and iso 100 to get it as dark as I could.
Slow shutter set at .08
no flash triggered
When the lights are in a circle move take the pictures and move the camera up and way to get the effects in the pictures below.
